Marilyn A. Hudson, author of several books including The Bones of Summer, When Death Rode the Rails, and co-author of the novel, The Mound, branches out to create a story arc featuring an intriguing character.

The series features a Steam Punk Sleuth named Madame Delaine.  Her stories occur at the brink of the steam punk transition, as the world is daily filled with stranger contraptions and more bizarre inventions. Airships are sailing through crystalline skies even as buggies still crawl over city streets.

The first book featuring 'Madame Delaine' was released Nov. 21, 2012.   "Madame Delaine and the Daring Girl Detective" will be followed by "Madame Delaine, The Invasion of the Aereostats", and by early summer 2013, "Madame Delaine: Murder on the Prairie Queen."

"She is a little like a female Sherlock Holmes. She is immersed in a Victorian world " Hudson noted, "but there are some steam punk perspectives and gadgets."

The works will target the young adult audience (12 and above) but be enjoyable for any age group. "The focus will be on crafting a good story first and all else will fall into place."

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and offers alternative universe aspects along with dashing clothes, mechanical gadgets, and steam inspired technologies.  "Think of the movie, 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen', or any of the works of Jules Verne and you can see the blending of the Victorian-Edwardian eras with inventions and strange problems."  These are similar in form to the rousing adventures called Edisonades that trilled young boys at the turn of the 20th century. The works feature strong female characters not afraid to use their minds.

Why steampunk?  "Steam punk is one of the fastest growing sub-genres out there and the freedom of the imagination encouraged through it is astounding."  Smiling she said, "A perfect genre for someone who never lost their love of playing 'dress up'."

The first book is now available on Amazon (https://www.createspace.com/3848303) and soon will be available via Kindle.
